We stopped at Ernie’s Bakery & Deli on Firehole Street to order boxed lunches: roast beef for me and ham for Ksenia. It looked like a good breakfast spot, although we were there for sandwiches. The roast beef could have been better.

At 9:51 we saw two coyotes. The first was beside the road with a fresh deer kill. The second was a little farther along, walking in the road.

We reached Upper Geyser Basin around 10:45 and managed to see Old Faithful twice. For the first eruption, we got there just in time to get a good “seat,” by which I mean we stood on a fallen log. It lasted about two minutes and didn’t go all that high.

Our timing worked again after a loop around the basin. We finished the walk, had a good view, and caught a second eruption around 11:40. This one was longer and taller than the first.

After our picnic lunch from Ernie’s, we drove toward the Tetons. Ksenia spotted a wolf after we stopped where other people had pulled over. We also saw a moose along Moose-Wilson Road. My note says “in river fishing?” The question mark is doing some work there.

Dinner was at the Mangy Moose in Teton Village. We both had elk stroganoff. The elk was tender, and the wine stood out pleasantly.
