Pacific Northwest, Day 2: Art, Beer, and a Long Walk

comments edit

At the Portland Art Museum, I jotted down a whole page of names and paintings, from Georges de La Tour and John Singer Sargent to Renoir, Monet, Degas, and Van Gogh.

We had lunch at the Deschutes Brewery Portland Public House. Ksenia had Wayfarer cider. I tried a flight of six beers, including Liquid Pie Sour, Fresh Squeezed, Lil’ Squeezy Juicy, Botanic Ale, Head of the Table, and Those Were the Haze. Lunch was a B&T for me—bacon, tomato, and rosemary—with fries, plus an IPA pretzel and mussels. We took a streetcar part of the way there.

At Lan Su Chinese Garden we took a tea break with a view of the garden. I had lavender tea and Ksenia had Assam. I also enjoyed pear sake. Then we walked by the river. We wound up on the wrong side of a long carnival, walked all the way around it, and made our way back to Powell’s. We wandered the stacks again, more aimlessly this time.

Dinner was at Clyde Common: mussels and salt cod fritters for Ksenia; a burger with truffle cheddar and duck confit for me. It was wicked good. The truffle was lost, but the confit stood out. Kind of like bacon on a good bacon burger.

Part of our June 2019 Pacific Northwest trip. Trip summary.
