Europe, Day 11: Prague Castle, the Tram Fiasco, and an Open Gate

comments edit

Getting to Prague Castle became its own adventure. We left the hotel, remembered we needed train tickets, and turned back. The station by the hotel was closed for construction. We tried other stops, found a machine that wanted exact change, and had to break a large bill. After another wrong turn and a trip back to the hotel to change pants, our fourth attempt finally got us to Old Town Square. And our day was finally off!

The castle tour with Andrea started at 2:30. It included St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, and the oldest and largest parts of the castle. From there we walked through the Castle Gardens, past Shakespeare’s Bookshop, the Lennon Wall, and Charles Bridge.

Dinner at Dutá Hlava was traditional Czech and Colombian food, and very good. I had duck, beef tenderloin in brown gravy, and creamy soup with cranberries; Ksenia had cheesecake with raspberry and mango. The lemonade was thicker and more like a smoothie than I expected, but good.
