Europe, Day 5: Polar Bears, the New York Café, and a Train to Vienna
Polar bear day! At the Budapest Zoo, the two Russian polar bears were playful and fun. We also saw lions, tigers, other bears, giraffes, kangaroos, penguins, seals, birds, red pandas, and more.
We took a cab to the New York Café: a pretty, enormous room, live piano music, and food that was fine. Then Ksenia put on shorts on the way to the hotel so she could change for our train. The hotel gave me a sewing kit. The train to Austria was fine, if a bit stuffy.
In Vienna we checked in to the Hotel Royal, right in the center of Old Town. Dinner at Gigerl was Ksenia’s big green dumplings and a lemonade, and my salad, Helles beer, apple strudel, and pear schnapps.
