Europe, Day 2: A Walking Tour, Frida Kahlo, and Dinner at Menza
We took a walking tour through central Budapest: the Gandhi and Liberty statues, Michael Jackson’s tree, Elisabeth Square, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Academy of Sciences, Castle Hill, Matthias Church, and Fisherman’s Bastion. The statue of Charlie the cow has polished bells, for reasons that became obvious as soon as people walked by.
Lunch at the Picnic Pavilion was strawberry lemonade, red Hungarian sausage, tasty potatoes, and chimney cake. We got a little wet in the rain. Later, we saw the Frida Kahlo exhibition at the Hungarian National Gallery.
At Menza, I had sour cherry soup with ice cream, veal paprikash with egg spaetzle, and plum pálinka. Ksenia had a peach salad and goulash with spaetzle.
