London 2015, Day 1: The British Library and a Very Good Steak
We started at the British Library. The Magna Carta exhibit had Jefferson’s copy of the Declaration of Independence and a copy of the Bill of Rights. In the permanent collection, I saw Shakespeare’s First Folio, a Gutenberg Bible, and part of the fifth-century Codex Alexandrinus, open to the end of Luke and beginning of John. The Beatles display sent me down a small “Help!” rabbit hole.
Then it was a black cab to Temple Church, with its connection to King John and Magna Carta. The Charles Dickens Museum was next; Dickens lived in the house for about three years. We also stopped at Persephone Books, with its uniform gray covers and shelves full of women writers, and wandered around Covent Garden. Ksenia found the Moomin shop; I found a pint.
Dinner at The Jones Family Project was very good. I had a rib-eye with a steak tartare appetizer and a Delmonico 18/27 cocktail.
